Got off the plane today and when the music started, it was a Christmas song. Another came along shortly. Now, I expect to hear it in the card shop, as I did last week, but to me, it's just too damn early for general consumption.

Agreed, though it's never too early for peppermint bark.

It's too soon. Takes all the joy out of hearing it in December.

I'm not about peppermint bark, either, but I'd be happy with year-round eggnog. :-)

My Grandma Allen used to tell us that we couldn't sing or play Christmas carols before December 1st. If there's any Christmas carols outside of December, it's bad luck.
Grandma Allen had some strange superstitions; dropping a broomstick or stepping over a broom stick is bad luck. If a bird flies inside your house it's a sign of a death in your family. Placing new shoes on a table is bad luck.
Oh, and my brother Mike, who's walked into the room as I'm typing, asked me to let you all know that he's trying to keep me from riding a broom stick after November 1st.
(Be easy on him, he's a new member).

I have been practicing Jingle Bells on the piano for the last six weeks. I WILL play it with both hands by Christmas. I will, I WILL!

They're playing it out in the mall, but I'm not playing it in my store until Black Friday.

All things considered, you are most likely right. . . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . but let's make a exception for this;

Two stations in St. Louis started playing 24/7 Christmas music right after Halloween.

Thought I wouldn't like it - the traditionalist in me preferring it closer to the holiday - but this year, for various reasons, it's just fine, thanks. I'm lovin' it.

I think I said this in another thread but just in case....

Growing up my father always had a rule about no talk etc of Christmas until after Thanksgiving. I used to think he was being kind of scrooge but now I understand.
Sadly, I think Thanksgiving to many people becomes just a big meal to have before Christmas. To me its like Christmas without all the hustle and bustle a nice time to be thankful to be with family in a good environment without all the gifts and etc.

I don't understand the fixation with gifts, anyway. If you have loved ones, give them gifts when you feel like it or when you see something you know they'll love. Why the hell do you have to wait for Saturnalia?

So, the Wise Guys brought gifts to Baby Jesus. They rode on camels, too. Does that mean we have to schlep gifts to people whilst riding camels?

(I heard it on good authority that one of the Wise Guys brought a sled for Baby J.)

That's funny, I heard it was Frankincense, Myrrh, and a Gameboy.
